Tom Frey is a licensed radon inspector. Radon Certification is necessary for the testing, mitigation, consultation and assessments of radon.
Radon is a rare radioactive gas belonging to the noble gas series. It is known to be the second leading cause of lung cancer. Although it may be in your home, it cannot be detected by sight, smell or taste. The only way to check the radon levels in your home or business is by testing.
As stated before, radon is estimated to cause over 20 thousand deaths each year from lung cancer. However, most symptoms take many years to show up. Radon poisoning symptoms can be similar to lung cancer symptoms such as: persistent cough, difficulty breathing, chest pains, recurring pneumonia or bronchitis.
You can either purchase a Radon Test Kit or have a qualified professional like FLBIG test your home. The EPA recommends that all homes below the third floor be tested for radon. It is estimated that 1 in 15 homes in the U.S. have elevated radon levels.
In Florida, elevated radon measurements have been found in 1 out of 5 tests. For more information about Radon in Florida visit the EPA website.
